Under the hood
Plant apps have a habit of sounding certain. GrowGuard shows its working instead — here is what happens to your photo, and where the limits are.
A photo goes to a species classifier, and you get ranked candidates with a real confidence score — not one confident-sounding answer.
A measured classifier result is shown as a percentage. When the model can't measure confidence and a language model fills the gap, it's labelled “AI estimate” instead of being dressed up as a number. Below roughly 45% confidence, GrowGuard says so and asks for a closer photo.
Photograph a struggling leaf and you get ranked likely conditions, each marked as detected or suspected, with treatment and prevention steps.
A condition the image classifier actually found is “detected”; one inferred from context is “suspected” — and the difference is on screen, because the two deserve different levels of trust. Anything acted on also schedules a follow-up check-in.
Watering intervals start from species data and your own conditions — light, pot size, indoors or out — then adjust as reality comes in.
Tick off a task and the next one is scheduled from when you actually did it, not from a fixed calendar. Log a check-in as better, same or worse and the plan shifts accordingly — and the app shows you exactly what changed, old value beside new.
